Dog names and identity matching

Why matching names support a lead but never prove two dogs are the same.

Registered name and call name

Working-dog names often begin with an owner, breeder, or kennel name, followed by the dog’s individual name. Chief’s Angus, for example, may have the call name Angus.

Names are not proof

Two dogs can still share a call name or even the same recorded registered name. HoundLine does not combine profiles from a name alone.

Stronger evidence

Registration numbers, compatible parentage, documents, and information a user deliberately accepts from a HoundLine profile provide stronger identity evidence.
